Colombian cyclist Ivan Sosa was treated in hospital after he was attacked with the butt of a gun by a truck driver, a source close to the athlete told AFP on Thursday.

August marks the start of professional cycling’s official transfer period, the only time a UCI World Team may recruit riders. From August 1-15th, new pro riders and those with expiring contracts have the opportunity to sign to a new team. For any change of team between two seasons, the transfer period extends from August 1 to December 31st.

The spring classics kick off Saturday, February 27th with a strong field of cobbled specialists headlining the men's field at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. 

[p: Phil Bauhaus] edged the closing sprint in the Tour de La Provence in Salon-de-Provence on Sunday as [p: Ivan Sosa] retained his overall lead to win the four-day race.

Ivan Sosa exploited the attention on his more famous Colombian compatriot and Ineos team-mate Egan Bernal on the final climb up snowy Mont Ventoux to win the third stage of the Tour de La Provence on Saturday.

Tour de la Provence is a relatively new four-day stage race in the south of France, and is defined by one key feature. That feature is of course, the Giant of Provence, Mont Ventoux.

The 2020 Giro d’Italia is days away from beginning the second half of this jam-packed, exceptional racing season. Riders are facing the unknown, with very little recovery time, and isolation from family and friends in order to race. Limited access to the riders, empty finish lines, and scarce fans on roadsides have already made this season a historic one.
