Top Favorites And Underdogs For 2022 Women's Scheldeprijs
In the second edition of the women's Scheldeprijs, defending champion Lorena Wiebes enters as the clear favorite.
While the men's Scheldeprijs is a long-standing sprinter's classic, the women's edition was only introduced in 2021. The race was won by Team DSM's Lorena Wiebes. Wiebes will return to defend her title this Wednesday, but she will face a host of challengers.
Read on for FloBike's top favorites and underdogs at the 2022 women's Scheldeprijs.
Top Two Favorites
Lorena Wiebes
At only 23, defending Scheldeprijs champion Lorena Wiebes has made a name for herself as one of the most powerful sprinters in the peloton.
Wiebes' back-to-back wins at Miron Ronde van Drenthe and Danilith Nokere Koerse suggest that in 2022, she will continue to be the standard bearer in bunch sprints.
Chiara Consonni
Chiara Consonni surprised many by winning the 2022 Dwars Door Vlaanderen. The Italian will carry that confidence into Scheldeprijs with the full backing of her Valcar–PBM team.
Underdogs for Scheldeprijs
Megan Jastrab
Former junior world champion Megan Jastrab will most likely be on leadout duties for DSM teammate Lorena Wiebes. Jastrab is an exciting plan-b for DSM in the classics however as the young, super-talented American finds her stride in the Women's WorldTour.
Chloe Hosking
2016 winner of a La Course by Le Tour de France, Chloe Hosking is part of the dominant Trek-Segafredo women's team. Hosking has been a strong ally to world champion Elisa Balsamo this spring. However, with Balsamo absent from the startlist, Hosking has an opportunity to race for herself. The Australian packs a mighty sprint and will be eager to seize one of her first leadership opportunities since graduating to the Women's WorldTour from Rally Cycling last season.
