Tour de France 2024 Stage 8 Preview: Can Remco Evenepoel Maintain Momentum?
Remco Evenepoel picked up the first TDF stage win of his career in Stage 7 of the 2024 event. Does he now have the momentum to make a run for the lead?
As predicted, Remco Evenepoel won the first time trial of the Tour de France 2024, also the first career stage win for the TDF first-timer, with the win allowing him to gain confidence and a handful of seconds on overall leader Tadej Pogacar.
The two finished first and second, respectively, on July 5 in the Stage 7 time trial, and they're first and second in the General Classification standings heading into the more traditional Stage 8 on Saturday.

Evenepoel, the time-trial world champion, had the opportunity to pick up more than just 12 seconds on Pogacar, but a possible mechanical issue during the 25.3-kilometer run momentarily diverted his attention.
Heading into Saturday's 183.4-kilometer Stage 8, Pogacar leads Evenepoel by 33 seconds in the GC, while two-time defending champion Jonas Vingegaard is 1 minute, 15 seconds off the lead.
