The 2024 edition promises a punishing 21 stages across 3,400 kilometers, beginning in Torino and ending in Rome, and including a gravel stage and a grueling Stage 8, Spoleto — Prati Di Tivo, which features a 3,850 meter climb.

This year's Giro is also notable in that it is Tadej Pogacar's first-ever entry in the "Grand Tour" of Italy. The 2020 and 2021 Tour de France winner will have stiff competition from Geraint Thomas (who held the pink jersey for several stages in 2023), Ben O'Connor and Romain Bardet.
