2020's Best Touring Bikes

If you're looking to go on a long cycling trip anytime soon -- and by "long" we mean one of those longer-than-a-day rides -- then you're definitely going to be in the market for a touring bike if you haven't already got one.

Other bikes like endurance bikes, road bikes, and adventure bikes could probably get the job done with little difficulty, but they just don't compare to the joy that riding a touring bike gives.

Touring bikes are designed for long treks, with steel frames crafted perfectly for both durability and a relaxed riding position, with a springiness that makes it comfy on long treks. Additionally, touring bikes are set up to carry all of the luggage you need to bring on a long trip, have built-in mudguards, and they have wider tires than the standard road bike.

Basically, to reiterate, if you're going to go on a long cycling trek, a touring bike is just what you need. So for 2020, the three best touring bikes we recommend you ride are presented below:

1. Ridgeback Tour Bike

You have to love the vintage look on this guy, but with a redesigned body, the Ridgeback is up-to-date with the best design and technology on the market. The Shimano Claris-powered 11-34 cassette means you won't have any trouble shifting gears for any incline you face on your ride. And the Continental Contact tires are sturdy enough to go over any type of road you'll see on your voyage.

2. Adventure Flat White

This bike is recommended for someone who doesn't want to break the bank, but still needs something sturdy enough to support a lengthy ride. There's nothing that jumps off the page about the Adventure Flat White, but nonetheless it serves as an extremely reliable companion on medium to long treks and does so for a very affordable price. At under $550, it has all the features you'll need; perhaps they aren't as polished of features as some competitors, but they get the job done adequately.

3. Kona Sutra 2020

Kona has built a reputation as a brand that comes out of left field with its wide range of bikes and unique approach to each one, and the Sutra 2020 is no different. The Sutra has been consistently produced well year after year, and the 2020 version is no different.

Geared towards medium-length treks, the Sutra 2020 has a low center of gravity, making for a comfortable and stable ride, and a steel frame and fork that handles bumps in the road with relative ease. The rack in the back can hold up to 30kg of luggage, and the drive components include a Shimano XT rear mech and gearing with a Sora road triple chainring up front, 700c rims with 36 spokes on Shimano cup and cone hubs.

The Sutra 2020 can handle both your on-road or off-road needs, so whatever you face on your rides across the country it should be ready for. At around $1500, it may not be the cheapest bike you'll find, but it's a great one and will last you a long time.
