American Quinn Simmons, 18 years old, has the chance to race Paris-Roubaix in 2020 in his first professional season, and that's a reason he signed with Team Trek-Segafredo.

Simmons won the Junior World Championship road race in Yorkshire last September and decided to turn professional straight from the junior ranks. Doing so, he had to select a team that suited his aim in the Classics.

FloBikes sat down to speak with Simmons at a pre-season camp in Sicily. The full video interview can be seen here.

"That's a big reason why I chose this team because up front I had asked for a start position in Paris-Roubaix and some of the other stuff, and a lot of teams said ‘no’ right away, and [Trek-Segafredo were] willing to listen and give me a chance," Simmons said.

"For sure, I still have to prove myself but I think it's better to prove yourself and the team's open to it then have to prove yourself [in another team] and already have to [try to] change their minds."

Simmons begins his professional career at the Challenge Mallorca in Spain on January 31. If all goes well, he will participate in races like Ghent-Wevelgem, which he won as a junior in 2019.

He would join a core group that includes World Champion Mads Pedersen and Jasper Stuyven.

"Again, it comes down to how I'm riding for the selection. I think it's the same for all the guys. There's the core group that know for sure they're going but for me, if I can show that I'm strong and able to help the team in any way, and able to develop better through doing the bigger races, I'll be there."

It will be easy to follow Simmons ride because FloBikes will stream all the big cobbled classics this spring season.
