Tour de France champion Geraint Thomas pulled out of the Tirreno-Adriatico during Saturday's fourth stage with "stomach" problems, his Team Sky announced.

The Welshman quit the race 133 kilometres into the 221km ride from Foligno to Fossombrone, race organisers reported on Twitter.

"Unfortunately Geraint Thomas has been forced to withdraw from TirrenoAdriatico due to stomach issues," Sky announced.

Thomas began the day in 38th behind Briton Adam Yates.
