Caleb Ewan Crashes At The Hammer Series And Forced To Abandon The Race
Caleb Ewan hit the deck hard after the third lap sprint on stage two of the Hammer Series. It was an unfortunate moment for Orica-Scott. The team was in a great position after day one with Luke Durbridge scoring a lot of points on the climb, and they expected to keep the momentum going with big points from Ewan in the sprints. It looked like he was starting to find his rhythm on the third lap.
After being outside of the top ten through the first two sprints, he finished sixth on lap three. The crash happened soon after the peloton rode through the lap three sprint and Ewan was forced to abandon. Thankfully, the team reported after the stage that he had no serious injury, just bad road rash.
