Still riding high from the athleticism and adrenaline of Day 1, the BMX family returned to Metro BMX for another full day of racing—and fast laps at the Golden State Nationals. A light drizzle greeted riders early on, adding another layer of challenge as competitors battled not just each other, but the elements, on their quest for Bakersfield glory.

When the dust (and rain) settled, all but one Pro class saw Day One winners double down. Jeff Upshaw, Derin Merten, Molly Simpson, and Josh Jolly each found their way back to the winner’s circle—and the post-race interview with Olympic gold medalist Connor Fields.

Vet Pro: Upshaw Extends His Streak

Jeff Upshaw continued his dominance in the Vet Pro class, making it four straight series wins. Idaho’s finest led from the front once again, while the real battle raged behind him. In a heated charge into turn three, Nic Long and Tyler Brown tangled just enough to open the door for Corey Reid, who seized the moment and powered his way from fourth to second down the final straight.

ABA Futures Women: Merten Battles Back

Adversity builds champions, and Derin Merten’s Day Two story was proof. After a crash earlier in the day, Merten rallied to grab the holeshot in the Women’s main and never looked back. Addison Thompson pulled up alongside her down the second straight, but got pinched wide in turn two, allowing Kate Sifford and Landon Burian to capitalize and join Merten on the podium.

ABA Futures Men: A New Name Emerges

The ABA Futures Men’s class added yet another twist to the season-long battle, with Ethan Popovich flying out of the gate and laying down a flawless lap. "E-Pop" showcased his skills to edge out Day One winner Ryder Santos and hard-charging Brady O’Neil. With four winners across four rounds, the Futures series is shaping up to be a can’t-miss showdown all year long.

Women Pro: Queen of Bakersfield is Crowned

Dubbed the "Queen of Bakersfield" at the finish line, Molly Simpson cemented her title with another dominant performance. Blasting down the hill and clearing the first jump with authority, Simpson rode her Daylight Cycles machine to a commanding lead by turn one and never looked back. Small hill expert Olivia Armstrong and podium regular Lauren Reynolds rounded out the top three, with Reynolds making a slick last-straight move to secure her spot.

Men Pro: Jolly’s Star Continues to Rise

It’s rare to see a rookie take over the Pro Men class, but Josh Jolly made it look natural. Battling elbows with hometown favorite Kam Larsen into turn one, Jolly grabbed the lead and powered through cramping legs to his second win of the weekend. Larsen earned his first podium of the season, while Jordan Callum locked in the second podium finish of his career—both checking off major milestones in their 2025 campaigns.

As Day Two wrapped up, Metro BMX once again proved why it’s a classic on the USA BMX calendar—combining old-school track character with new-school speed and drama.
