Dutch bank Rabobank is returning as a cycling sponsor more than a decade after it left the sport blaming doping scandals, the Visma-Lease a Bike team announced on Thursday.

In 2012, Rabobank said it would sever its 16-year ties with the team that bore its name—now evolved into Visma—saying the sport had been damaged by a succession of doping cases.

Those included not only Lance Armstrong, who rode for another team, but also Rabobank rider Michael Rasmussen, who was booted from the 2007 Tour while wearing the leader's yellow jersey.

From July 1, in time for the team introductions for the Tour de France on July 3, the company name will again adorn the kits of the powerful Dutch team.

The lineup includes Jonas Vingegaard, who has eclipsed Rasmussen as the most successful Dane in the Tour de France with two overall victories, and Belgian all-rounder Wout van Aert.

"We are returning to our old love: cycling," Chairman of the Managing Board of Rabobank Stefaan Decraene said in a statement.

"As the jersey sponsor of both the men's and women's teams, as well as the development team, we look forward to supporting the next generation of cycling talent together," he added.
