The CHL has named its captains for this month’s CHL-USA Prospects Challenge as Porter Martone will wear the C and be joined by alternate captains Caleb Desnoyers, Blake Fiddler and Matthew Schaefer.

Martone, Desnoyers, Fiddler and Schaefer are four of the 14 CHL players that NHL Central Scouting identified as potential first-round picks in last month’s 2025 Preliminary Watch List. William Moore and Charlie Trethewey were also on the list and will be playing in the event for Team USA.

The CHL roster is comprised of players from the OHL, QMJHL and WHL but Martone is arguably the event’s biggest name.

In the conversation to be the No. 1 overall selection in 2025, the 18-year-old forward has 32 points (16-16-32) through 16 games for the OHL’s Brampton Steelheads, who he also captains. He captained Team Canada to a gold medal at the 2024 IIHF U18 World Championship, too, and set a Canadian record with 23 career points (8-15-23) – 17 of which (5-12-17) came last spring.

Fiddler should also be familiar to American hockey fans as he captained Team USA at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup this past summer and during the 2023 U-17 Five Nations Tournament. The right-shot defenseman is currently in his second season with the WHL’s Edmonton Oil Kings and has 3-4-7 through 18 games this fall.

Fiddler is a Frisco, Texas native and is projected to land somewhere in the back half of the first round. He’s listed at 6-foot-4 and is also the son of long-time NHL forward Vernon Fiddler.

The two-game series, which will take place in London and Oshawa, Ontario is slated for Nov. 26-27 and sends 22 of the top CHL prospects against the NTDP’s U18 squad.

Both games will start at 6:30 p.m. EST and be televised on NHL Network in the U.S. and TSN in Canada.
