Pogacar Avoids Crash In TDF 2024 Stage 5

A day before the first of two time trials at the 2024 Tour de France, the third sprint stage of the 2024 TDF is on tap during Stage 6 on July 4.

The first two sprint stages have been historic. What could possibly happen in the third?

The first sprint stage was won by Biniam Girmay, who became the first Black rider to win a TDF stage. Meanwhile, during the first of back-to-back sprint stages, Mark Cavendish made history of his own in Stage 5. He won his 35th Tour de France stage at the age of 39.

Cavendish has won more Tour de France stages than any rider in the race's history. He passed the legendary Eddy Merckx for the most all-time. The two had been tied at 34 since 2021.

Tadej Pogacar leads the General Classification and won the yellow jersey after Stage 4. Pogacar, the favorite to win the race, finished 36th in Stage 5 and avoided a crash.
