Tour de France 2024 Stage 4 Highlights

Following the grueling climb up the Col du Galibier and into France, the sprinters once again take center stage in Stage 5 of the 2024 Tour de France on July 3.

The first sprint stage was historic, with sprint specialist Biniam Girmay winning and becoming the first Black rider to win a TDF stage. Girmay beat Fernando Gaviria of Colombia to win the stage.

During Stage 4, climbers dominated, and the General Classification favorite Tadej Pogacar won what FloBikes analyst Gregor Brown called the most challenging stage of the first week.

The General Classification is led by Pogacar, who is wearing the yellow jersey for the second time in this year's Tour.

With sprinters likely to dominate the stage, all eyes will be on 39-year-old Mark Cavendish, who is one stage win away from holding the record for the most in TDF history. The British rider and sprint specialist was involved in a crash on Stage 3 that led him to finishing 113th in the stage. There are only four more true sprints left after Stage 5.
