Tour de France 2024 Stages That Are Can't-Miss

Every day of the Tour de France is must-watch, but these five stages could decide the race that is streaming on FloBikes in Canada starting June 29.

Don't Miss These Epic Stages In The Tour!

The Tour de France 2024  begins with climbs and will end with a time trial, as the this year’s TDF route is unlike anything the event has ever experienced.

The route begins in Florence, Italy, at 5:50 a.m. Eastern on June 29 and will end in Nice, France, instead of Paris, due to the 2024 Olympics.

The stages include steep peaks through the Pyrenees Mountains, several sprints and even gravel roads.

FloBikes reporter and cycling analysist Gregor Brown calls the route 'unique’ and one fans have rarely seen. For instance, the last time the Tour ended in a time trial was in 1989, when Greg LeMond won his second Tour de France.

“It has everything,” Brown said.

The Tour de France is streaming live in Canada on FloBikes and the FloSports app, but FloBikes will be the home of complete coverage of the Tour.

Brown broke down his favorite stages of the 2024 Tour De France. Here’s what to know:

Tour de France Stage 4: Pinerolo To Valloire

The first of the five can’t-miss stages is on July 2. It's 139.6 kilometers and is a steep climb.

“It’s not the short distances we’re worried about, it’s those big climbs,” Brown said. “And, of course, we have the final climb over the Col du Galibier after two massive climbs beforehand. Remember: we’re now in France after three days in Italy. Over the Galibier, 2,624 meters and then that treacherous descent down to Valloire.

“I think this is the hardest early mountain stage."

Tour de France Stage 9: Troyes To Troyes

This hilly stage on July 7 is 199 kilometers, but it also features something that isn't always apart of the Tour de France.

"Stage 9 is almost 200 kilometers, and what's important about this stage is that 32.2 kilometers is on gravel road," Brown said. "This is a full on gravel stage."

Brown notes that this stage also comes just two days after the first time trial.

"Things are going to be hot and heavy right before the first rest day," he said.

Tour de France Stage 11: Evaux-Les-Bains To Le Lioran

The second-longest stage of the Tour is 211 kilometers and a mountain stage.

"It's known as the 'massif central,' (and) known for its tough climbs, technical roads, high temperatures and at high altitude," Brown said. "These roads, they don't roll easily. And we have four punchy climbs in the final 45 kilometers. It's great for escapes and for a GC ambush."

Tour de France Stage 15: Loudenvielle To Plateau De Beille

This stage is in Pyrenees Mountains. It is 197.7 kilometers and is on Bastille Day. The stage includes 4,850 meters of elevation gain.

"I think this is the toughest summit finish in the second week," Brown said. "The riders will be exhausted by the time they even reach this stage at the end of the week, and they have a massive summit stage finish for them."

Brown said fans likely will see some GC riders drop out of competition during this stage.

Tour de France 19: Embrun To Isola 2000

Another mountain stage that is 144.6 kilometers, this stage is in the French Alps and one of the final stages of the event. There are three 2,000-meter peaks in that short distance.

"This one is for pure climbers and could be a potential redemption day for some of those riders who might have been caught out earlier in the Tour de France," Brown said.
