Tour de France Stage 13 Profile: It's Time to Face the Grand Colombier

The Tour de France continues for Stage 13 on July 14 where the cyclist will set off from Châtillon-Sur-Chalaronne to Grand Colombier, France.

Ion Izeguirre won his second stage win on stage 12 of the Tour de France, but Jonas Vingegaard will go into stage 13 wearing the yellow jersey.

Stage 13 won’t be an easy feat, it features one of the most challenging mountains of the Tour de France 2023 route.

There is only one climb through the entire route, and the crest happens to be at the finish line. The Col du Grand Colombier is one of the few Hors Catégorie climbs in the Tour de France 2023. The cyclists haven't faced such an intimidating climb since the Puy de Dome in stage 9.

Whoever conquers the Col du Grand Colombier could be considered one of the most skillful and strongest King of Mountain cyclists in this year's Tour de France.

Stage 13 Tour de France Route

Stage 13 is a 137.8 kilometer, or 85.62-mile route, with a sprint 87.3 kilometers (54.25 miles in). The majority of the terrain is flat but the cyclists will likely be saving their energy during this time.

The star of the show is the final climb, Col du Grand Colombier. The stage will finish atop the mountain, so whoever wins this stage is also the King of the Mountain.

Col du Grand Colombier Tour de France Stage 13

The Col du Grand Colombier is a Hors Catégorie summit, at a 7.1% incline, and 16.1 kilometers, or 10 miles.

This is the second time the Tour de France visits this mountain since Stage 10 of the 2012 Tour. That year, Thomas Voeckler, was the first to arrive at the summit, becoming the first King of the Mountain to reign over the mountain.

The 2023 Tour de France will only visit two more Hors Catégorie mountains in the rest of the route: The Morzine Les Portes Du Soleil in stage 14, and Cole de la Loze in stage 17
