What to Know About Tour de France Stage 5 Route, Climbs
Adam Yates wears the yellow jersey in the Tour de France as stage 5 begins on July 5. Here's what to know as cyclist leave from Pau, France.
Sprinter Jasper Philipsen took home his second-straight stage win on July 4 and will seek a third, but mountains await cyclists in stage 5.
While Philipsen looks for another stage win, Adam Yates will try to hang on to the yellow jersey. Yates has worn the jersey every day since winning stage 1 on July 1. He begins stage 5 with his teammate Tadej Pogacar just six seconds behind and his twin brother, Simon, just seven seconds behind.

Stage 5 of the Tour de France 2023 starts July 5 in Pau, France and ends in Laruns, France. The stage includes a Category 1 climb, the first of the race.

Tour de France Stage 5 Route
Cyclists will set off from Pau to the Laruns finish line 162.7 miles away.
The Town of Pyrenees will send off the riders for the 65th time in the Tour de France. This makes it an exciting day for fans just as much as the riders as everyone will gather at the historic location. Sixty-two stages have finished in Laruns.
For the riders, the star of the show if the Category 1 climb, Col de Marie Blanque. This is the first mountain race of the entire tour.
The mountain ends with 18.5 of the course remaining. This particular stage of the race differs from what we’ve seen so far with the demanding climbs followed by open and flat tracks. This is the same finale as the 2020 Tour de France Route.
